This article is about both the history of stem cell research and the pros and cons. In 2006 and 2007, President Bush vetoed the H.R. 810, the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act of 2005 after the majority of the Senate and the House of Representatives passed this law. But on March 9,2009, President Obama changed this by lifting the ban and saying research should be put into action.
This article then goes on to say in many polls, the majority of Americans "strongly supports" federal funds towards embryonic stem cell research. Although this is not outlawed in the United States, the states of Arkansas, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Michigan have prohibited any stem cell research. Other countries have moved forward in research. The United States seem to be falling behind and "losing out" on good economic opportunities.
Some pros discussed in this article include the research that could eventually lead to treatments for presently incurable diseases and the ability to thoroughly understand human development. Also, some cons presented include the controversy of when human life begins and that no cures have yet been discovered with all the money that has already been spent.
