Block 2 Pro Group Argument ~ Alex Bunk

http://www.wired.com/medtech/stemcells/commentary/spinalcolumn/2007/04/spinalcolumn_0411

There is an increasing need to discontinue using and researching adult stem cells and instead start funding for research and utilization of embryonic stem cells.  Between the years 2000 and 2004, there were approximatly 25,000 bone marrow transplants done using adult stem cells.  3,629 of those transplants were complicated and ultimatly led to death.  Of those 3,629 deaths due to complications, 624 were children under the age of 18.  If that trend were to continue, adult stem cells used in bone marrow transplants alone would claim their 10,000th life by the end of 2012.  This means that approximatly 14.52% of bone marrow transplants done with adult stem cells will be complicated.  You only get 1 life; would you really want to dodge a fourteen and a half percent chance of death? It is quite evident that we must discontinue the usage of this horrible method and begin further experimentation with embryonic stem cells.
