This article is discussing a recently done study on how stem cells battle heart failure. There were only 16 patients and 14 of those showed a successful increase in the amount of blood being pumped/the blood-pumping efficiency. The stem cells were taken from the patients' own heart and placed in more needed places where the heart muscle tissue had died. Although these were cardiac stem cells, this is still a fantastic example of what stem cells can do for society today. Moving on to embryonic stem cells, many people believe that using embryonic stem cells is "creating life to destroy it." This is not true, the embryo does NOT have a heart beat and does NOT have a nervous system, therefore it can't even be considered a human being. Stem cells have the potential of becoming any cell needed in the human body, and could be the cure to many diseases. If President Bush had not cut federal funding for stem cell research a few years ago, scientists would be way ahead in research, and who knows, the cure to many horrific diseases could be related to the use of embryonic stem cells, if people would just do their research before forming an uneducated opinion on a very controversial topic.
